Hi Andrew, I'm a little bit disappointed that you obviously missed this one: https://www.themaplist.org/the-map-list/carl-robert-showalter/

He also had made a guilty plea, which prevented him to be able to regain his license?

Well, the person who wasn't satisfied with Showalter's testimony was the state attourney called Updike. After Showalter stated his diagnoses of borderline disorder and substance abuse and Haysom also being violent to herself by self muliation, Showalter had analyzed a picture of Haysom in which she had only phantasies and never would have realized that Soering could really kill her parents. Also he doubted a real active role of Haysom establishing the alibi, cause Soering was the dominant one?! The center basis to form his opinion was input from Haysom. What might Showalter have analyzed after her statement in 1990, that she was much more concerned that Soring won't kill her...?! A shizophrenic Haysom showing 2 faces?

So I "agree". His forming of an expert opinion has nothing to do with his bizarre therapy methods but with his bizarre results of expert analysis. Haeh.....So maybe....better we should ask Updike about Showalter than Grulert.

I invite you to go visit my post about Haysom's 1987 trial, including Showalter's testimony. As you will see, I included long excerpts of Jim Updike's 1987 cross-examination of Dr. Showalter, and explained the background to the cross-examination: https://thesoeringcase.substack.com/p/the-trial-of-elizabeth-haysom-part?s=w

I have already posted long excerpts of Söring's 1990 trial on my old blog, and will be posting many more, time permitting. It's also important to keep in mind that the conclusions Showalter testified to were based on a report by by three clinicians, not just Showalter. Showalter was only the one who showed up to testify.

And, of course, his later professional tribulations prove nothing at all about his insights into the relationship between Söring and Haysom, which were developed by three experienced clinicians and therapists.

Ouch, your mistake! His license was merely *suspended* for his masturbation therapy. His license was actually revoked for billing fraud. And, to raise the question in the post, what does this have to do with the credibility of his testimony -- which was based on the reports of two other well-respected clinicians?

The Annabel H. quote I started this piece with says it all.

Elizabeth Haysom drew an entirely different knife from the one she said she saw in the back of 'Soldier of Fortune' magazine. I have a number of copies of this magazine from those years, 1985, 1986. I used to read it. It talked about things the legacy media was not talking about, like the SAS wars in Oman or Rhodesia. The secret wars. It was ahead of its time. That knife was a rip-off. I seem to remember that at one point--and it was a perennial ad--it sold for five dollars. Usually more like ten. It looked flimsy to me. It had to be, it was partially of wood, and the wooden section in which the narrow, thin blade would be esconced looked as if it was held together by brass bands on each end. That wouldn't work well under stress. I think it would have flown to pieces. Elizabeth, who had training in graphic art, drew a weapon that was substantially thicker, did not have shiny bands on each end, and was obviously of folded steel. I think the knife used was what you might call 'tactical' with a black steel military style blade that was formidable. I think I have held one in my hands in those years. And the strange thing is that I have never seen one like it on the internet. This model was banned in the Philippines, or so I think, but it gets really complicated about the Balisong. It was banned because they were making so many of them for export and I guess the US complained. The film 'Rambo' may have had something to do with it. It was also considered to be like a switch-blade in some states. Illegal.

Anyway, the one thing I am sure about is that the knife in the magazine was not the knife that Elizabeth drew. And by the way, could you, gentle reader, provide a sketch of a butterfly knife? And if you could, how many sketches would it take to explain the way it works? And have you ever met a twenty-one year old girl who could draw one?

Even Beever didn't know --said it was a hunting knife. Bull, it was a 'navaja' and in all Spanish-speaking countries men carry them. Utility, shaving, whatever. To 'cut' someone with as it said in the code. You can turn a four and one half inch knife package into a nine inch knife in a second or three with one of these.

The judge accepted some of Dr. Showalter's clinical evaluation and rejected the bit about the knife in the magazine and how Elizabeth had come to a new understanding with her parents. I agree with this judgment. Let's face it. This is all about evil.
