Jens Söring Gives a Secret Mystery Lecture at an Unnamed Law School

He's activated stealth mode!

[Updated] Yesterday, Söring posted a notice about a lecture he gave at a law school to his Instagram and Facebook pages, without identifying the law school or the professor who invited him, except to call him “Professor K.” Söring then deleted the post after a few hours. I have also decided to delete the image which was formerly in this post, since I suppose it’s possible some of the students didn’t want to be pictured on Söring’s social-media feeds.

In the meantime the venue for the lecture has been identified as the “Statensaal” at the University of Maastricht:

My policy has always been that I don’t care whether Söring lectures at private organizations like someone’s restaurant or “wellness festival”. But when a publicly-funded institution, like a university, foundation, or public broadcaster hosts him, that’s different. Those institutions have a special responsibility to objectivity and balance, and inviting Söring without any objective moderation or contrary perspectives is a gross breach of that duty.

I will, therefore, be contacting Maastricht university with an offer to hold an informative, fact-based lecture which will not only correct Söring’s misstatements but offer an interesting scholarly and comparative perspective on American and German criminal law. I’m certain they’ll take me up on it, aren’t you? After all, universities are places of open debate and contrasting views. Any university worthy of the name should realize the need for both sides of important issues to be aired.
