Episode 2 of My YouTube Series: The DNA Issue
What does the existing DNA evidence say in the Soering case, and why won't Soering request testing with cutting-edge new technology?
First of all, here’s my new video. (The first video is here). Please forgive the audio issues, I experimented a little and…it didn’t go well, and I was too dumb to fix it. I’m getting better, though. If you have questions or comments, post them on YouTube or here.
In other Soering news, we’re all still waiting for Daniela Hillers’ book on the Soering case, “In Dubio pro Reo/Reasonable Doubt”. It’s now well over 2 months overdue, and it will no longer have an introduction by John Grisham, which must have been quite a blow to Hillers. I don’t know what’s going on over at Gallip Verlag, the small publishing house Hillers owns. I suspect there’s a lot of last-minute rewriting going on.
And Hillers has me to thank for that. As a commenter recently pointed out here, in many respects I am Jens Soering’s best friend, and the best friend his dwindling band of supporters has. I point out the flaws in their arguments, giving them a heads-up about the need to come up with new excuses and explanations.
I have been courteous enough to point out several mistakes and misstatements (some maybe defamatory) in what Hillers and Judge Ralph Guise-Rübe have already said about the case. I know what goes on in Team Söring when I do this. First they splutter with outrage at my “relentless” and “merciless” “witch hunt” against a man who is only trying to reintegrate into society. One recent example is the right-wing German lawyer Ralf Höcker, who seems to have a close personal connection to Söring, given his unhinged attack on me when I merely suggested he might wish to read my book.
Then they reluctantly check out what I wrote to see if I was actually…right.
It pretty much always is. So then it’s time for a stealth-edit to delete the mistakes and misstatements, always behind the scenes, never with a nod of thanks to yours truly. Yet that’s fine with me, I do what I do not for credit or cash, but because it’s what makes me me!
Thus, if I had to bet, I’d say that during the ongoing months-long delay in publishing Hillers’ book, she and Guise-Rübe have probably been feverishly going over their initial manuscript, looking for stuff they may have spouted off about in ignorance of the facts. Perhaps Guise-Rübe is finally reading the trial transcript, which you can do right here for free.
If he’s doing that, he’s having the same reaction as everyone else who’s read it: “Oh dear, there is actually a gigantic f**king Everest-sized mountain of evidence against Jens. Good gravy, I wish I’d read this before I said all those provably false things about Söering and the evidence against him. What was I thinking?”
In any case, I pre-ordered the book months ago and most certainly expect to get a copy before I retire. Perhaps by the time I get it, it won’t be so much a book as a pamphlet. No matter what, I’ll review it here and on YouTube!
And another great video about the case. It's a pleasure to listen to your explanations of the DNA issue. By the way: I add 250 € on top, if Söring will ever file the petition and share the result publicly.
