First, our new regular feature:
Jens Söring DNA Watch
On June 28, 2022, the podcast “Small Town Big Crime” revealed to the world that Jens Söring has been presented with a plan to use cutting-edge DNA analysis methods to test the evidence in his case — a plan developed with the help of and/or approved by several members of Team Söring as well as the prosecution. It has now been
12
days since those episodes were broadcast, and Söring has still neither agreed to the testing nor explained why he refuses.
Now back to our regularly-scheduled programming. Inevitably, Jens Söring has started his own YouTube channel (German):
He’s asking his viewers for suggestions for future videos, and provides four proposals: (1) famous people I was in prison with; (2) daily life in prison; (3) my case; or (4) resilience and mental toughness. Topics (2) and (4) could be pretty interesting, although I know most of what he tends to say about these things. Topic (1) is something he hasn’t really spoken much about — he mentions that he was in prison with one of the men convicted in the bizarre downing of Air India Flight 182. I would gladly listen to his profiles of infamous criminals he was detained with.
He becomes genuinely animated, however, when discussing topic number three, his case. He says a “huge amount of utter nonsense” has been written about it, and gives an example: Although people say his conviction was reviewed by many appellate courts, most of the “new evidence” that cast doubt on his guilt was in fact never presented to those courts. He doesn’t really provide enough specifics for the viewer to know what he’s talking about.
Very few of the commentators on the video specifically say they want him to talk about his case; most want to hear about his personal opinions. One commentator, however, suggests he invite someone on his podcast who “understands his case” and “perhaps with reason doubts his innocence” to have a debate:
I second that motion and hereby volunteer my services! I will happily debate Söring online or in person, in whichever language he chooses, anytime and anyplace, at my own expense.
Alas, Söring has never agreed to debate someone who knows his case and is skeptical of his innocence claims, and he never will — just as he has never requested DNA testing of the evidence of his case and never will.
But perhaps we can come close to something like a debate. Söring creates a 10-minute video about some aspect of his case, and then I respond with one of my own. I have everything needed to put together a basic YouTube video, and actually have been thinking about doing that very thing anyway.
So if you’re reading this, do me a favor and leave a comment urging Söring to make videos about his case and his innocence claims. The results will be enlightening!
I did not listen to the YT performance. Even when I wanted to believe JS many years ago I never got anything positive from his personality. Needless to say I’m selfish and avoid him.
I did read the comments and will encourage the testing as suggested by you.
On a different note - there has to be a way to convince one of the other people who can order the testing to do so. How can they be motivated?
