Biologist Dan Krane Refutes the DNA Myth (Again)
It's "1000 to 1500" times more likely all DNA was from Derek Haysom than any unknown assailants.
German public television recently released a three-part documentary series “Murder, Power, Media” on the Söring case. This is the first time any public television station has taken a critical look at Söring’s case. And boy oh boy, did they do a thorough job. The series is mostly about the way the German media have handled the case, but there are also valuable insights into Söring’s claims. The first episode is available with English subtitles here.
In the third episode, the filmmakers interview Dan Krane, a Wright State University biology professor and DNA expert. Krane goes over the evidence in Söring’s case and comes to the same conclusion that all independent observers endorse: The blood samples from the crime scene do not prove the existence of anyone at the crime scene except Derek and Nancy Haysom. Here’s the excerpt, with my English subtitles:
The filmmakers repeatedly asked Söring’s expert, Dr. J. Thomas McClintock, for his reaction to Krane’s conclusions, which clash with McClintock’s own. McClintock refused to comment. I have also tried to contact McClintock about another serious error in his statements about the case. No luck there either. He refuses to defend his work, which I take to mean he realizes it cannot be defended.
McClintock is the latest in a long list of lawyers, experts, and journalists to have damaged his own reputation on behalf of Jens Söring. Most of them, like McClintock, are well-meaning, highly-qualified people whose hearts were in the right place. The only mistake they made — and it was a big one — was trusting Jens Söring.
I bet McClintock wishes he had never heard that name.
One entirely disheartening thing about this, Andrew: the photo of Dr. McClintock discloses that he is employed at Liberty University, AKA "Jerry Falwell's vanity university."
